A family of five was killed when an explosion lit a cabin on fire in Brinnon, Washington early Sunday morning.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel responded around 1 a.m. to a report of a house fire.
“Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and state the hillside was on fire and the house, a small rental cabin, was gone,” the Department of Emergency Management for Jefferson County said in a press release.
Firefighters located the bodies of two adults and three children in the remnants of the cabin during the suppression effort.
The Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate the explosion.
The investigation is developing and the names of the victims are being withheld by Sheriff’s officials at this time.
