FISHERSVILLE, Va. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is claiming that President Barack Obama would raise taxes on middle-income Americans.

Romney on Thursday said middle-class families would pay $4,000 more each year in taxes under Obama's plan. The Republican candidate is relying on a study from a conservative think tank that's also referenced in one of his campaign ads.

Obama's campaign disputes the claim, calling the figure, quote, "a partisan distortion" of the American Enterprise Institute study.

Romney appeared with running mate Paul Ryan at a rally in Fishersville, Va.

Under Newt's tax plan Romney pays nothing
That's right Newtie wants a zero tax rate on capitol gains. That way the wealthy can be like kings and queens. Only the serfs pay taxes. The middle class and poor will pay all the taxes and fight all the wars the republicans start. The children of the wealthy will never pay any taxes yet get to live in the USA their entire lives tax free. Good plan Newtie.

$21,700,000 and a $13.9% tax rate. The GOP calls that FAIR,the Dems want to tax these folks at a higher rate they call this UNFAIR.Its that simple. Gee even Newt (a simple run of the mill Millionaire)paid a tax rate of over 30%.The Super Rich indeed live a privileged existence

How many jobs did Bain create/ He has been asked that question but for some reason has been let off the hook in giving actual numbers by BOTH his GOP opponents as well as that so called main street media we often hear about

    Leftist dummy logic
see, the money that got invested had already been taxed (it couldn't have existed as capital otherwise, legally). Thus, the actual tax on that money taken as capital gain might be 45% or more in actual burden. But of course, the leftist assumes that money invested just appeared out of thin air... 0bama cash from the 0bama stash!

The reason the proto communists want to see those returns is so they can cherry pick to twist and distort. There are thousands of pages, they also reveal information on partner's finances which would be flat wrong. But, the neo marxists have literally nothing with which to even marginally legitimately bash Romney, so they have to try this. P.S... Harry Reid is a mob connected corruptocrat scum bag. Prove you're not Harry. Prove you're not.

    Some of the same people
that are squealing about Romney showing his returns refuse to show theirs. I really don't care who shows them. If the IRS thinks that someones not paying, they have the right to audit anyones returns. Besides Obama likes to put tax cheats on his staff. It's really sad to see the mentality of the voters on the left. They look at a picture of a nice house in the middle of a nuclear meltdown and all they can see is the nice house bareilly being held together with spit and glue and still can't see everything coming down around it.

You also told us that the war in Iraq was lost, and the surge has failed. Rather than attack Romney, why dont you pass a budget? If President Obama is re-elected, nothing would make me happier than you being declared the former SML, who lives in the DC four seasons, and has been made a millionaire by a questionable land deal. Go back to Searchlight Nevada, and stop thinking that you are smarter than most Americans, I have no problem with the DNC, I am a Hillary supporter.

I take him at his word, but my questions are these…
...why does he think that he should pay 13.9% (2010) and most of the rest of us pay more? Note that his income is in the 39.6% bracket or more than 3x what he's paying now (I heard that he paid $3 million in taxes, this would put it around $10 million...and who makes up that difference, the lower and middle income taxpayer!). How would he justify his paying a lower rate due to his capital gains/investment income when independent studies have proven that these preferences do nothing for the economy? Why not release a few more returns, is there a donation he doesn't want the conservative groups to see?
