4 ways to make the summer sizzle in Anacortes
SPONSORED — Summer in the city can be a drag. With longer days and shining sunlight, it’s the perfect time for an island getaway. Conveniently located between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, Anacortes is a vibrant town with a laid-back, coastal vibe. Celebrate the season with Fidalgo Island’s impressive lineup of summer events.
Feel the ‘big boom’ of a little town
The nation’s birthday is when Anacortes truly comes alive. The event of the summer kicks off with a patriotic parade at 11 a.m. on July 4. Get all the small-town feel as you enjoy the lineup of firetrucks, parade floats and a delightful dose of red, white and blue.
If you’re a local, be sure you wear your patriotic best to participate in the annual town photo taken at 10 a.m. at the intersection of 5th and Commercial Street.
After the parade, keep the patriotic party rolling by heading down to Seafarers Memorial Park. Rock the Dock is Anacortes’ festive community concert and features live bands, food trucks, a beer garden and a kid zone complete with face painting and activities. The night ends just as it should, with a spectacular fireworks show. The events start at 5 p.m., with the fireworks commencing at dusk.
As a beloved tradition of locals and visitors alike, Anacortes’ 4th of July celebration is a true community event.
Rock the dock – all summer long
Speaking of rocking the dock, the fun-filled musical event kicks of Anacortes’ summer fun on July 4, but continues all season long. Whether you enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Rock the Dock on Independence Day, keep coming back to Seafarers Memorial Park each Wednesday and Friday all summer long. Rock out to free concerts from local artists, while sampling gourmet bites and brews. Summertime never sounded (or tasted) so good. Keep up to date with the entire music scene, including free music Saturday’s at the Heart of Anacortes, here!
