The suspect took advantage of a running, unlocked BMW parked at 10th Avenue East and East Howe Street shortly before 10 a.m. Friday June 29. The owner was nearby exercising. She left her 16-year-old daughter inside the car — she was sleeping.
The suspect got in the car and drove away. The girl began texting with her mom while the unknown man was at the wheel. The mother called 911. The suspect then kicked the girl out of the car at Kobe Park. Police quickly responded to her location. She was not harmed.
The man then drove the car to the International District and left it running in the 300 block of South Maynard Street. He then fled the area.
The suspect is a white man, between the ages of 25-35, about 5’8″ tall, with a medium build. He was wearing dark clothing, including a sweatshirt and a blue Mariner’s baseball cap, and gray sweatpants with black tennis shoes. He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt under the sweatshirt.
Police searched the area with a K-9 unit but did not find the man. Surveillance cameras around the scene did capture him briefly.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to call Detective Magan in the Seattle Police Robbery Unit at 206-684-5540.
