Summer road construction is in full swing around the Puget Sound region. Here’s what you need to know for this weekend:

13-day closure on Highway 92

Highway 92 at Machias Road will be closed for 13 straight days starting Friday at 8 p.m. as the state replaces the fish culvert on Little Pilchuck Creek. It’s not the first time this stretch of road has been closed this summer.

“It is a complete closure of that intersection,” Frances Fedoriska with WSDOT said. “The detour routes that were in place for these last two weekends are the same detours that everyone has to take during the 13-day closure.”

Highway 92 will reopen at Machias Road by 2 p.m. Thursday, July 19.

Eastbound SR 522 Snohomish River Bridge

Crews will be resurface the eastbound bridge over the Snohomish River this weekend, requiring nighttime full closures starting Friday. WSDOT says eastbound lanes will reopen to a single lane of traffic during the day between the overnight closures.

This is the first of two full weekend closures in the eastbound lanes over the bridge. The second one is planned for late July or early August.

SR 522 closure details, including a lengthy detour:

  • Friday, July 6 – 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 7 – 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 8 – 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Monday, July 9 – 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Repaving on SR 99 starts Monday

Starting Monday night, the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin repaving both directions of Aurora Avenue between Roy Street near the Seattle Center and North 145th Street.

Most of the work and closures will happen at night, but drivers will notice changes Tuesday morning. WSDOT says at least one lane of SR 99 will remain open in each direction throughout the project.

SR 99 closure details:

  • One lane at 7 p.m. Monday and a second lane (in three-lane sections) at 8 p.m.
  • One lane weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during non-peak travel times
  • Weekdays, all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. for the morning commute
  • Weekends, short sections of the right lane will close from 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday, and the adjacent lane nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bus pad work.

WSDOT says the project will take about two years to complete.

That stretch of roadway hasn’t been repaved since 1999, according to WSDOT. This time around, crews will replace old asphalt, concrete panels, and 50 curb ramps. WSDOT will also remove asphalt and install concrete pads at 11 bus stops.
