You'd think here in Seattle we'd have figured out how to compost pretty well by now, but for some reason plenty of people still had enough questions to propel it to the top of the list. The messaging app Snapchat proved to be among the most popular during the past year, propelled by younger users attracted to the service that deletes pictures after they're viewed, and their parents trying to figure out just what they're really up to. It's somewhat surprising people needed help figuring out how to grind like Miley Cyrus and other celebrities, but here in Seattle there was enough interest to propel 'twerk' to #3 on the list. We can't all trip the light fantastic, but we can try. And perhaps thanks to the interest generated by shows like Dancing With The Stars, a significant number of people turned to Google this year to figure out how to tango or two-step. Turnout might have been low this election, but many people still turned to Google in the Seattle area to figure out how to vote. Russell Wilson makes it look easy, but for mere mortals, passing a football proved a formidable enough task to prompt a lot of people to Google how you actually pass a football. Seemingly just about everyone around here has their own blog these days, so it's only fitting many flocked to Google to figure out how to actually get started. For some reason, a lot of people around Seattle needed to figure out how to factor equations this year, landing it #8 on Google's list. Given the popularity of the Instagram app, a lot of people asked Google how to repost others' pictures, or "regram." A lot of folks around here used Google to try and figure out how to whistle.

Google is out with its top searches of 2014. Here in Seattle, the World Cup, Robin Williams and the Super Bowl topped the list.

But much more interesting is what people were actually trying to figure out on Google this year. The Top-10 “How To” questions for Seattle are a surprisingly diverse mix of practical and pop.
