Police: Sedro-Woolley boy's gunshot wound was self-inflicted

Reports say Trevor Braymiller, wanted in the shooting death of a 4-year-old Sedro-Woolley boy, has turned himself in.

A man wanted in the shooting death of a 4-year-old Sedro-Woolley boy has turned himself in and police say the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

"Trevor Braymiller, 25, was present when it happened. He fled, taking the firearm with him," Sedro-Woolley Police Chief Doug Wood told KIRO Radio's Ron and Don Show.

Braymiller's disappearance Sunday morning sparked a manhunt that led detectives to Big Lake, near Highway 9, on Monday where he surrendered.

Wood said the initial report from the medical staff, when the child reached a hospital, indicated the gunshot wound was not self-inflicted.

"It was only today (Monday) after the more detailed investigation, we learned that it was self-inflicted," said Wood. "The fact that the boyfriend took the weapon and fled the scene was concerning to us."

Braymiller had reportedly told a friend that he was outside smoking a cigarette when he heard a 'boom.' He went back inside and found his girlfriend's son not moving in his bedroom.

Wood said they believe that a gun found near the scene is Braymiller's and was used in the shooting. Because he's a convicted felon, Wood said he has no legal right to own a firearm.

"He's definitely looking at a lot of very serious charges," said Wood.

There were five people inside the home, but none of them witnessed the shooting.

Wood said the boy's mother is "suffering horribly right now, the whole family is."

It's not the first time that police have been called to this home. It was raided in 2011 during a drug investigation.
