Sherman, Baldwin mock NFL for ‘hypocrisy’, Lynch fine

Marshawn Lynch might be a man of few words, but Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman had plenty to say Tuesday about the NFL fining Lynch $100,000 for refusing to talk to the media.

In fact, he did more than just speak out at his weekly press availability. He put on a scathing show mocking the league with the help of teammate Doug Baldwin.

Baldwin held up one of his life-sized cutouts from Subway while Sherman blasted the NFL for fining Lynch. The pair mocked the league’s hypocrisy, criticizing the NFL for preventing players from naming certain products while taking millions in ad dollars from others.

Sherman then name-dropped all of the companies he has endorsement deals with, such as Beats by Dre, which players are told not to wear in official appearances because the NFL has a deal with rival headphone-maker Bose.

Sherman and Baldwin also mocked the league for scheduling two games in five days, despite its supposed concern for player safety.

“It’s fun to use your time in the NFL to speak about something you care about, right? Because then you don’t get fined $100,000, you don’t get fined at all for this. This is how they want us to talk, right? This is how they want us to advertise, right Doug?” Sherman said sarcastically.

“Sounds about right to me,” Baldwin said.

“Gotta make some money. Gotta not get fined,” Sherman laughed as he closed out the appearance.

It’ll be interesting to see how or if the league responds to Sherman and Baldwin’s protest.
