Paul Allen and Bill Gates came into fortune together but the co-founders of Microsoft have taken different paths with their money.
Gates is best known for putting a great deal of his resources into the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation working to fight poverty and poor health conditions around the globe, as well as trying to improve America’s education system.
Paul Allen’s Vulcan also does its part philanthropically with investment in conservation, clean technology and brain science. But Allen’s ownership portfolio also includes a few more fun, lotto-win worthy splurges.
Allen owns one of the world’s largest yachts, the Octopus, at 414-feet long. He owns the Portland Trail Blazers and also the Seattle Seahawks. His Experience Music Project is full of a good deal of his own rock memorabilia. And he also uses his resources for fun things like underwater exploration. His team just found a sunken Japanese WWII warship.
If you had the billions these guys have, how would you spend it? Would you be more of a Paul Allen or a Bill Gates-type billionaire?
