On Kat Kinsman's second date with her husband, they found out that neither of them wanted to have children.
They've been married seven years.
So it wasn't news to Kinsman's family or friends when she wrote a piece for CNN that read "I am nobody's mother, and never will be."
It was a note, in part, to strangers that always seem to second guess Kinsman's decision. She said these second-guessers often think that women who do this are selfish, or somehow broken, or that she hates children - but that is so far from the truth.
Not only does Kinsman spend time with her friends as well as their children, she was present for the birth of a close friend's child, and held her leg as her friend pushed new life into the world.
"I wouldn't be in the splash zone if I hated children!" exclaimed Kinsman during an interview with 97.3 KIRO FM's Ron & Don Show.
While she has taken some heat for the article posted on Mother's Day, Kinsman said it's mostly men who have taken offense in response to the article, with comments that questions how womanly a woman is who doesn't want to have children.
The response from women, she said has been much more positive.
Kinsman is the managing editor for CNN's blog, Eatocracy, but on Mother's Day, she found herself with an a great opportunity. "I have a great platform to tell that story."
