Shower Thoughts: Softening to unions

Oh man, I really needed a hot shower this morning. These are some of
the random thoughts that bounced through my head.

I think my mild case of hypochondria is kicking in. I’ve convinced
myself that all the smoke in the air is giving me a sore throat.

My thoughts on strikes are evolving. Early in our radio career, we
were forced to join a union. We had to pay a lot in dues, and got very
little protection in return. Union leaders turned a deaf ear towards
my concerns. It turned me off towards unions. But now I can see that was more about my very specific case than unions in general. I find myself
softening towards Boeing Machinists, crane operators, and teachers now.

For whatever reason, there has been a dramatic increase of random
people just walking into my carport recently. Most of them just stand
for a minute and then turn around and leave. I wonder if Google maps is
broken or something?

It’s amazing to me that with access to the smartest people in the
world at his fingertips, that the President of the United States gets
his facts from talking heads on Fox News. That’s like walking past a free Michelin Star restaurant to get to Jack In The Box.

I see articles about Salesforce.com all the time. They had revenues of
$8.3 billion in 2017. I have no idea what they do.

If you live or work in Seattle, you’ve probably seen the Duck Dodge on
Tuesday nights. A few dozen sailboats take over Lake Union for some
kind of competition. I watch it every week when we get done with the
show. I would like to Duck Dodge before things end for the year. Can
someone swing by the Eastlake shoreline and pick me up at 7? I’ll
bring my own life vest.

And finally, hope y’all have fun at Bumbershoot this weekend. I’ve
officially reached the point where I recognize way less than 50 percent of
the bands playing. I’m sure I’d like a lot of them if I had time to
sample them all, but since there aren’t any headliners that I would pay
for this year, once again … I’m out.

That’s all the Shower Thoughts™ I have for today. See you next week.

You can hear “What are we talking about here?” everyday at 4:45 p.m. on 97.3 FM.

Sometimes, "gone but not forgotten" isn't always how slain officers are remembered. But in Pierce County, a special effort is being made to commemorate a fallen deputy.
