A local charity that helps people around the world is coming to the aide of people in its own back yard.

Federal Way's World Vision is opening a new storehouse Thursday in Fife. It's mission will be to distribute donated goods to local food banks, shelters, schools, and people who need help.

"During these tough economic times when folks are getting laid off and money is tight, we just really feel the call to do all we can do to make sure the supplies are getting out to the people who are suffering," said Reed Slattery, storehouse manager.

Slattery says World Vision is known for its relief work around the world, but it's had a similar storehouse, helping the needy in Seattle and Tacoma for about ten years.
