Seattle police outraged by TV for accused cop killeron October 19, 2012 @ 5:05 am (Updated: 5:38 pm - 10/19/12 )
Christopher Monfort, who is accused of killing Seattle officer Timothy Brenton on Halloween night 2009, will be the only inmate in the ultra-security area to get his own TV.
KIRO TV reports he's getting the special treatment for health reasons and because he's lonely.
Monfort has been awaiting trial for nearly three years.
He is also paralyzed below the waist so he doesn't have the same access as other inmates to television.
The jail director says Monfort needs some kind of stimulation while awaiting trial.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, The Seattle Police Department said it "strongly opposes any accommodation being provided to a charged murderer."
"It is our understanding that Christopher Monfort is currently being held in isolation. He is awaiting trial for the murder of Seattle Police Officer Tim Brenton and the attempted murder of Seattle Police Officer Britt Sweeney. We disagree with the jail psychologist that Mr. Monfort needs a television. Mr. Monfort should spend less time complaining and more time reflecting on the crimes he committed.
With the third anniversary of Officer Tim Brenton's murder fast approaching, he is missed more than ever. No TV for Christopher Monfort," said the statement posted on the Seattle Police Department blotter.
