What you hear on KIRO Radio's morning news

Seattle's Morning News on KIRO Radio may sound a little different because there's a new team telling you about the day's stories.

John Curley is the new host and is joined by co-host Tom Tangney and news anchor Ursula Reutin, who will provide a lively way to get up-to-date information.

"My goal every morning is to make sure anyone listening gets to work feeling a little smarter and a little happier," says Curley. "I want our show to be as necessary as that second cup of coffee in the morning. Tea drinkers are welcome too."

In addition, a new role has been created for KIRO Radio's former morning anchor Linda Thomas. She has been named Senior Features Reporter and Digital Journalist for KIRO Radio and MyNorthwest.com.

Read what Linda is reporting on now at The News Chick blog.

Ace reporters Chris Sullivan and Tim Haeck are still your morning news gatherers. Kimi Kline is reporting traffic from the sky every ten minutes, and KING 5 meteorologist Rich Marriott will bring you your weather.

Listen to the new Seattle's Morning News team each weekday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. on KIRO Radio.

I may enjoy 97.3 again for my morning drive.

No more "editorials" by the morning OPINON Crew

    Really RLM 456?
I love John Curley, but the reason I love him is because he's never about just the facts- he is ALL opinion and ALL reaction... Not sure if you know who John Curley is, are you not familiar with his work in... *ANYTHING*? He's an epic fake storyteller, super funny, spins news and opinions to make his point. He is amazing. I did like the old morning show- I liked how everyone got to talk and it was pretty fair and balanced (as fair and as balanced as Seattle can get, anyway) and I liked it very much. I like John too, but rarely caught his night show because I'm not driving around in my car at 6 or 7 or whatever that time slot was. (also Curley was rarely even there to host! ouch, burn! haha! Sammamish City Council beckons, I guess)

Ultra Lib? Have you ever *heard* John Curley?
I hadn't even listened to the new morning show for 2 minutes this morning before they started mocking Sandra Fluke and her position on the Obama campaign. Clearly you've never heard of John Curley, if you think this is a move to the liberal side....

The Times Ive heard Curley when he co-hosted
he was a liberal supportist. We already know Tangney and Reutin were Ultra libs, Man Tangney drools over everything Obama does. Thus to me the program is Ultra lib.

    Ultra liberals
Hi Rick, I appreciate you weighing in on the new show. Over the last 24 years, I have worked very hard to not inject political views into any stories or newscasts I have done. Your description of me as an ultra-liberal is inaccurate. But if I have given you that impression, I will work even harder to gain your trust because it is very important to me to be truly fair and balanced. Sincerely, Ursula

    Not even close
I've heard Curley and he comes across as more of a libertarian than anything. Heard him just yesterday railing against the campaign to cover birth control pills in health care plans. Seems very seriously conservative, but with liberal social leanings. In other words, very reflective of libertarians. Tangne, yes, is very liberal. Ruetin isn't someone I've really heard speak much, but I'm sure she can't possibly approach the smug, off-putting liberal attitude of Luke Burbank. (Oh, for the days when Ross was the Crusader for Common sense!)

    KIRO's morning news
Oh, rats! Now I will have to find a new source for morning news. Bill Radke was the only bearable element of the program before you began messing about. Between KIRO-FM changes and this new blaring format of Mynorthwest.com, you've managed to ruin everything. Off to NPR, I guess

NPR? wow. that's a cry for help. I would call your friends, family and/or parole officer ASAP. "next on NPR Snooze News, we'll talk with a leading color scienist and he will report to us the discovery of a new hew between 'Taupe' and 'Mauve'. How exciting! right Bartholomew Detter-Reynolds, my fictious super passive Seattlite lefty co-anchor? But first another fund drive break! Please let us keep our jobs, we are relavant! I swear! Zzzzzzzz.... "

Now it won't sound like an Obama campaign add first thing in the morning. The DNC will have to go elseware.

    That didn't last long
I wasn't at all happy when Jane Shannon was booted and they hired Radke, and promoted Thomas. So I didn't really care for either one of them, they were OKAY, but were they given much time to become more likeable? I like John Curley just fine, although I'm used to hearing his voice at night after all these years. And Tangney is great, I'm very glad he's sticking around. Surely, KIRO is beating KOMO in the mornings, or is that why they've fired or repurposed more on-air talent?

Linda was the best thing about that show. Didn't care for Radke, but Curley is all show, all shout and no substance.

    Thank you
I don't care who is on in the morning as long as its not Linda Thomas, she's not a reporter or anchor she's a commentator, I want to hear whats going on without the news readers opinion injected into the story.

Glad to see Bill Radke go, when he joined the crew I definitely dialed to 97.3 less in the morning. That said, I will be listening even less with Curley running the Clown Show. Talk about annoying, he is almost up there with Dori...

    Disappointed.
Some aspects of the previous show really grated on my nerves - the good/bad/no news thing was awful... and I was really over hearing about boots. That being said, I'm not thrilled with their choice for a change. I've listened to John Curley as a fill-in host and as the night guy off and on. Not a huge fan of his talking over others and yelling to make his point. I was a loyal morning listener who spent a mere ten minutes trying this out today, only to turn it off after hearing John & Tom yelling over each other about politics. Good luck, Ursula.... doubt you're going to get a word in edgewise. The shows on KIRO just keep changing. They are struggling to find decent chemistry in some situations, and it shows. I just don't see John Curley as the morning news.
