Poll reveals Inslee, McKenna in dead heat

A new statewide poll has Democrat Jay Inslee and Republican Rob McKenna in a dead heat in the race for governor.

The results show 46 percent support for both Inslee and McKenna as of last week when ballots were being mailed out.

Inslee was faring better among women, while McKenna was getting the support of 19 percent of people who voted for President Barack Obama in 2008.

The poll of 500 likely voters was conducted by consulting firm Strategies 360. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

The same survey shows strong support for charter schools (51-34), gay marriage (55-34), and legalizing marijuana (54-38).

Kevin Ingham, vice president of polling and research at Strategies 360, said ballot measures typically lose some of their "yes" votes as Election Day approaches, and he suspects that people who say they are undecided on the gay marriage issue are likely to oppose it.

A similar poll, also by Strategies 360, last May gave McKenna a four point lead. Compared to that survey, voters were more likely to conclude that the country and the state are moving in the right direction.

    The Only Reason
is Inslee has a "D" next to his name...The morons in Western Washington that are so ill-informaed and have not paid any attention to what has happened in this State over the last 30 years....Tax & Spend, Corrupt, Big Government. Chris Gregoire was voted one of the Worst Governmeners EVER, scoring F's all the way around over 8 years and the idiot Democrats in this state think that that is OK??? Yeah, we need more of that....

to give Rob Mckenna a shot. I believe that he will be good for the state of Washington. Try a honest republican this one time if you're a democrat and on the fence. If it doesn't work out, you can vote for Inslee in the next election. I'm sure Inslee won't have a job by the next governors race, so you can vote for him then if Mckenna doesn't meet your expectations.

I take back anything bad I have ever said to you. I could not agree with you more and I THANK YOU for your endorsement. We have got to do something different in this State, because 30 years of Democrats have nearly bankrupted Washington.

    Dead heat is the norm............
It's in the economic self-interest$ of corporate media to have a close race. Corporate media is for profit thus, there is no business case to have a lopsided race, even if true. Political advertising makes a lot of money for the corporate media.

Don't you remember Ellen Craswell and John Carlson? They did more damage to the republican party than any democrat ever did. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

How can we, as readers of your posts, respect or believe anything you say when you can't spell. I realize it's not the spelling it's the content, but your content is flawed too. Our current Governor has done a good job keeping the republicans from bankrupting our state. She has created jobs and removed (republican made) obstacles from construction projects in the Metro area. Plug in your spell check there, carp face, if you watched the debates I hope you enjoyed seeing your loser candidate for the last time.

Counting all of those Democrat surpluses longwayhome?
You know the surpluses generated, by the Democrats who have run Washington State for almost 30 years. Any budget deficits in the upcoming bienium? How many special sessions have been necessary to address budget deficits created by spending in a Republican budget in Washington State in the last 30 years? None. No, it's been all Democrats, all of the time. The responsibility falls to the Democrats and those who continue to send them back to Olympia.

McKenna is clearly the smarter of the two candidates. But I think Jay has the best interests of Washingtonians in mind.
