Accused serial rapist expected to be released Tuesday

Accused serial rapist Danford Grant was expected to go home Tuesday after a King County judge set the conditions for his release during a hearing Tuesday morning. By evening however, he had not yet been released.

Grant, 47, is accused of raping or attempting to rape five women, all workers at Seattle-area massage parlors. He's held on $1 million bail after a judge reduced it from $3 million at a hearing last week.

Grant has argued he needs to be freed from jail to help his attorneys prepare his defense.

King County Superior Court Judge Mary Yu ordered Grant to be monitored electronically. He is allowed to leave his home for four hours per day, but only to see his attorney, doctor, or for court appearances.

While the judge limited Grant's Internet access, she did permit him to email his wife during the day while she is at work and did not restrict their communications.

Grant's mother has put up her large real estate holdings in Kansas to help secure her son's release.
