Brock Huard hopeful for former teammate Jerramy Stevens

Olympic soccer star Hope Solo and Jerramy Stevens tied the knot Tuesday evening after the former Husky and Seahawk was arrested for domestic assault. His bride was named a victim in the police report.

710 ESPN Seattle host and former teammate Brock Huard was just as surprised to hear the pair planned to get married as the rest of us.

Huard said he actually ran into Stevens last week at Sea-Tac Airport on his way home from the East Coast. They got to chatting about life and what Stevens has been up to.

"It's been a couple years since he played. He still, like a lot of pro-athletes, spent nine years in the league and still doesn't know what he's going to do next, but he's in town to get married."

Stevens told Huard they weren't going to go on a honeymoon because his fiance would be on tour, a soccer tour. She is Hope Solo.

Huard said he didn't spill the beans at work because there's 'a code' amongst teammates. He may have dug deeper had he not been delirious from traveling all day.

While critics wonder why someone like Solo would choose to spend the rest of her life with someone like Stevens, who has a long history of arrests, Huard said he was a great guy on the field.

"If you lined up 100 of his former teammates, as far as how he took care of business on the field, how he handled himself in the huddle, how much he cared about winning, how much he cared about the other teammates...as a football player, he was a tremendous guy."

Former Seahawks DT Craig Terrill echoed the same thoughts on the Dori Monson Show. "He was stoic, good teammate, he'd come out and play football, joke around, laugh in the locker room, but then you'd hear about these problems that would come up off the field and in his private life."

Huard said he's aware Stevens has many demons in his personal life, but he's not alone.

"I could go through the list of guys that are searching to try to figure out what (they're) going to do next."

Huard said he feels horrible about the news of Stevens' arrest early Monday morning, but he's hopeful the newlywed will find his way.

"I hope it's all upwards from here," said Terrill, doesn't know about Solo, but said it seems like people with issues gravitate toward each other. "I hope they pull it together."

Therein lies the problem.......he isn't playing football anymore...........and.....has LOTS AND LOTS of free time to get into trouble.

I wish everyone well who decides to get married, but usually the "throwing of the hands" comes many years after the ceremony, not before.

Too bad he can't use that UW degree for anything.

What a crock, Brock. Demons is an understatement. Assault, Rape, hit and run, multiple DUIs and battery... that's not demons, that's just a bad egg.

Next you're going to say that registered sex offenders are really just trying to figure things out.

Gotta love watching the former heart throb of soccer flash gang signs with the other model citizen in that photo. I guess their two month courtship was all that was needed to seal the deal for both of them. It's true love!

    Demons.....
No--it's called being a psychopath. Ted Bundy was a "nice" guy too. If you compartmentalize your life and are constantly told the rules don't apply to you because you can play football then there is no real need to change. He's never faced any serious consequences for his actions and it seems that this trend is continuing with enablers like Hope. He won't ever find a way out because he doesn't want to. We'll hear about him again inside 6 months. I give the marriage about a year maybe two.

I thought this was the time when everyone is supposed to throw stones and here you are being humane. What about the "its 2012" cliche? I'm confused now. Gotta go the herd is leaving me.

    he does not need humane...
How many times do his actions need to be excused? A scumbag is a scumbag. What he needs is a jail cell for a few years. But I fear that would probsaly just make him worse. I am allowed to throw stones because I have never been arrested for domestic violence, rape, hit and run, drugs, assault, or anything else.

was not the best word choice, it sounds accepting. Does something need to be done? Most likely.
