Voter turnout in Washington was largest in nation

Hot ballot items like R-74, the same-sex marriage issue, brought voters to polls. (MyNorthwest.com Photo/File)

Secretary of State Sam Reed certified the election results on Wednesday, and also shared an impressive number.

Voter turnout in Washington reached 81 percent -- the highest voter turnout nationwide.

Reed said they're still working on the final numbers, but he wanted to congratulate the people of the state of Washington.

Not only was voter turnout high because it was a presidential election year, but the race for governor and the hot ballot issues of same-sex marriage and marijuana legalization lured voters to polls.
