Lingerie Football League looks for legitimacy with name change

The Lingerie Football League is looking for legitimacy, announcing Wednesday it's changing its name to the Legends Football League in hopes of gaining recognition as a real sport and not just eye candy.

"This is the next step in the maturation of our now global sport. While the Lingerie Football League name has drawn great media attention allowing us to showcase the sport to millions, we have now reached a crossroad of gaining credibility as a sport or continuing to be viewed as a gimmick," said Mitchell Mortaza, Founder and Chairman of the Lingerie Football League.

Seattle's LFL team, the Seattle Mist, has been a member of the league since its beginnings in 2009 and enjoyed widespread popularity.

The Lingerie Football League canceled the 2012-13 season. Mortaza earlier said the decision was to take the time to properly brand the game and expand it.

Mortaza said they have hopes to expand to Australia, Europe and Asia.

"In order to reach the next milestone, we feel the focus has to be the sport and our amazing athletes."

Along with the name change, the league also says there will be changes to logos and uniforms, with removal of sexy female figures, a redesign of shoulder pads for increased safety, and a brand tag change from 'True Fantasy Football' to 'Women of the Gridiron.' But the women will remain scantily clad.

"The Lingerie Football League is looking for legitimacy", isn't going to happen as long as you are selling sex....you need to make a decision, athletics or sex.

    LFL is a true sport
Have you been to a game? It is real football, but men couldn't take is seriously until they saw the first hit of the game back in 2009. I know a couple of the players and those girls are fit and fierce! The fact that they aren't covered from head to toe in clothing only proves that they are more bas a** then the big boys playing for millions.

    Need Real Gear!
The LFL can be taken seriously by putting on some real football equipment. Keep the same sexy colors and images, but put some real pads on for protection. I've seen a couple of games and cringed every time someone got hit, because the women are playing hard. With the adjustments, sponsors, investors, and insurance companies will step up.

    Bwa ha ha ha!!!

They can't even put together a four game season! Now they want to expand? Please...

They need to put together a FULL season, complete with playoffs and a championship before they began having delusions of grandeur.

It't a tittilating screen shot on the news for regular fellas
and a perversion for some. Please. This is what it is and nothing more. Put some clothes on and see how your ratings drop faster than an erection when a picture of Barbara Boxer is shown.

Do they have a team around here? Where do I get season tickets? Looks to me like they have all the equipment they need to play.
