Boeing SPEAA members offer to extend contract to focus on 787 woes

Saying the company has enough on its mind with 787 problems, Boeing's engineering union offered Wednesday to compromise on a new contract and extend the agreements for another four years.

SPEEA negotiators returned to the table with Boeing Wednesday in the ongoing labor standoff. Union officials say they have offered to incorporate changes both sides have already agreed on in their talks into existing contracts and extend those agreements for a new four year term.

"We should move forward with the items upon which we can agree, and leave the "status quo" in place for the remaining items," said union president Tom McCarty.

If the company agrees, McCarty says its 23,000 members will be able to "roll up their sleeves," and focus entirely on the issues affecting the 787 and Boeing.

    engineers usually are very aware of risks and hazards, but management will often push bad ideas for performance incentives.

    Extending the contract is a super idea.. It worked fantastic with the Machinist's union.Get the contract then focus like a laser beam on the few issues that the 787 has.
