Rain's return ends nearly record dry spell

The return of rain to the Seattle area Wednesday after 12 days ends one of the driest January stretches on record.

"It ties the second longest dry streak at Sea-Tac since we started keeping records back in 1945," says KING 5 meteorologist Rich Marriott. Only a 15-day dry spell in the city in January 1963 was longer.

Marriott says we're heading back into a fairly normal January pattern of lowland rain and mountain snow over the next few days before another dry stretch next week.

"Were going to be looking at a couple of fronts moving through here for some rain off and on all the way through the weekend and highs will be low to mid 40s which is pretty close to where they should be this time of year."

For those hoping to see a significant lowland snow event, it's looking less likely. Marriott says long range computer models for the next few weeks show little chance for snow around the Seattle area, and the chances start to decrease as we approach the middle of February.
