Over 8,000 fake signatures found on two Washington initiatives
on February 14, 2013 @ 10:16 am (Updated: 10:18 am - 2/14/13 )The state is investigating a case of initiative fraud. The Secretary of State's Office is calling it the worst case of initiative fraud in recent memory.
An investigation found more than 8,000 fake signatures on two initiatives being considered by the state legislature.
Nearly half of those went to Tim Eyman's Initiative-517.
"Obviously we're happy we had more than enough signatures to make up for it, but obviously we're pretty [upset]," says Eyman. "We ended up paying for 3,644 signatures that ended up being fraudulent."
The three people accused of falsifying the signatures could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Eyman says he's pleased the people involved will be held accountable.
