A father-to-be couldn't get his wife to the hospital in time for his daughter's arrival so he had to deliver the newborn in the front seat of his car along I-5 in Lakewood.

State Trooper Guy Gill said dispatchers started getting calls about an erratic driver about 10:30 Tuesday night. They found the car pulled over on the side of the road near the I-5/Highway 512 interchange.

"This baby wasn't waiting for anybody," Trooper Gill said. "Maybe they thought they had a little extra time, but she wasn't waiting. There was just no time. He had no choice but to pull over and take care of it right there, and that's exactly what happened."

Trooper Gill said paramedics arrived in time to cut the umbilical cord.

Baby, mom and dad are doing fine.
