Snohomish County Sheriff John Lovick wants to replace Aaron Reardon as the next county executive.

Lovick said he wants to bring some healing and leadership to the county, after 18 months of controversy surrounding Executive Reardon.

As soon as Reardon announced his resignation Thursday, Lovick said the decision to move up the county ladder wasn't difficult. "I love being sheriff, but I also love living in this county," he said. "It's a wonderful place to live, to raise a family and to grow."

Lovick spent the weekend telling the Snohomish County Democrats that he wanted to be considered. They will select three names to give the county council to consider for the job. "I believe I will be in the top three," said Lovick. "I will be speaking with all of the council members, explaining what I hope to do and I believe I will be the next county executive."

Lovick, 61, has been sheriff for five years. He spent nine years in the legislature and 33 years in the Washington State Patrol.

Because Executive Reardon's resignation takes effect after May 17, a Democrat is assured of staying in office until a special election next year. Had Reardon resigned before May 17, the next executive would have been decided by the voters this year.

    Good News
Sheriff Lovick will be able to go as far in state politics as he wants to go. The man is a stalwart civil servant and an inspiration. The kind of guy that usually does not want to be near the mess of politics. Good for Snohomish County.

He will just be another puppet for labor unions and will probably get the job because of it. We no longer have a say. The union money says it all.

    I don't trust him
This guy has Dori Monson's support, so he will never have mine. But I am getting a kick out of all the Dori followers who would normal be scared to death of a liberal black democrat, but since Dori likes him, you're all on board. haha too funny. Talk about sheep...

Let me make sure I understand you correctly. You don't like Dori, so because Dori and Lovick are friends, you will not vote for Lovick. Now you state that those who like Dori and might be willing to vote for a friend of Dori's are being racist sheep. So what does that make you if you will not support a fellow liberal who happens to have a friend who is white?
