Everett police shoot, kill aggressive pit bull

An Everett Police officer called to reports of pit bulls running loose shot and killed one of them Monday after the dog charged after him.

A number of people called police about the dogs chasing cars and acting aggressive near a public walking path and elementary school in the 5400 block of Rockefeller Avenue, Everett Police spokesman Aaron Snell said.

The officer couldn't find the dogs, but did find a house where he thought they lived. No one answered the door, and as he turned to leave the two pit bulls charged him. The officer tried to kick one of them away, and was forced to shoot it when it charged a second time. The other dog ran from the scene.

"At this time we don't know where that dog is. It has not returned home and it is somewhere in the community," Snell said.

The officer, a 14-year veteran, was not injured. An investigation is underway, including potential past complaints about the dogs. No criminal charges have been filed, Snell said.
