Seattle Police seek help on anniversary of Pioneer Square murder

Apr 22, 2013, 6:06 PM | Updated: 6:16 pm

It’s been a year since Nicole Westbrook was gunned down in Seattle’s Pioneer Square in a random shooting.

Police are hoping for any new tips that could help solve the case.

Westbrook, a 21-year-old culinary student, had just moved to Seattle weeks before the shooting. She and her boyfriend, Bryant Griffin, were walking home from a comedy club after a night celebrating his first paycheck. It was around 2 a.m. when gunshots erupted from a moving car.

“A white car rolled past them on 2nd Avenue and Yesler, and fired random shots from the vehicle,” says Seattle Police Detective Renee Witt. “One of them struck Nicole and she died as a result of her injuries.”

Witt says Nicole and her boyfriend were not the intended targets. “They just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” she says.

Police still haven’t located that white car or the people who were in it. They’re urging people to take another look at the video in hopes of generating more tips.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 9-1-1.
