The Puyallup Fair gets a new name: Washington State Fair

The Puyallup Fair is getting a new name.

It will still be in Puyallup, but come September you'll be going to the Washington State Fair.

The News Tribune reports the idea of changing the name for the fair started years ago. After many discussions, the people who put on the fair recognized it would gain regional and national recognition with a new name.

For example, commercial sponsors have been confused by the difficult-to-say name for a long time.

Two Seattle branding firms conducted focus groups and discussed strategy. MBA students at the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington discussed the process and made recommendations.

The final decision was announced last year and now they're selling the idea to the rest of us.

An Associated Press report.
