Thousands of students fail Washington state math exam needed for graduationon July 15, 2013 @ 5:49 am (Updated: 6:08 am - 7/15/13 )
This year's class was the first required to pass an algebra or geometry test to get a diploma. More than 4,100 did not meet the requirement. Another 2,700 didn't even attempt the test.
Many of them took the state test again in April, and they will find out by next month if they will get their diploma. If they don't meet the requirement, they can keep trying.
Under state law, students who haven't earned a diploma or GED can continue to get a free education until the age of 21.
