Two men who ripped off a Tacoma convenience store early Wednesday morning died in a crash as they sped away from the scene.
Officer Loretta Cool, with Tacoma Police, said the pair stole several 12-packs of beer from a Chevron station just after midnight and then assaulted a clerk before bolting.
“They jumped into their car and fled,” Cool said. “They got to excessive speeds, lost control, and crashed.”
Both men were thrown from the car and killed near East Portland Ave and 64th, about a mile from the store.
The Tacoma News Tribune reports the car launched into the air and crashed into a construction site.
A third man, the car’s driver, reportedly took off, but officers caught up with him and transported him to a hospital where he was arrested.
The Tribune says the clerk suffered minor injuries in the assault.
