Undercover cops dressed in Jaguars gear may be easy to spoton September 20, 2013 @ 5:16 pm (Updated: 6:22 pm - 9/20/13 )
Sgt. Sean Whitcomb says the joke is that their officers are going to stick out because no Jacksonville fan is going to travel 3,000 miles to see their team lose.
"We're hoping there are going to be other Jaguars fans turning out because we don't want to be the only ones wearing Jacksonville gear at the game this Sunday," says Whitcomb.
He says last Sunday, a woman in a Seahawks jersey accosted two women wearing 49ers jerseys. "Words were exchanged, the Seahawks fans followed one of the victims, grabbed her by the hair and shoved her into the street. The victim turned around and punched the suspect in the face."
Ultimately, no one was seriously injured, but Whitcomb says it's that kind of behavior they're trying to discourage. He's pleased the patrols are on people's minds and safety is part of the conversation amongst fans.
It's not clear if the officers will go over the top this Sunday with face paint and wigs or just stick to a humble t-shirt hidden beneath a hoodie.
"Hey, look at the really pasty guy in a Jaguars jersey," jokes KIRO Radio's Ron Upshaw.
But Whitcomb says they have their best trained undercovers out there and the point is that Seahawks fans are on their "absolute best behavior" for Sunday's game. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
