Police release 911 recording of fatal soldier stabbing

Oct 9, 2013, 1:23 PM | Updated: 2:20 pm

Police have released the heart wrenching 911 call from a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier who was with a fellow soldier stabbed to death as they walked in Lakewood early Saturday morning.

“My buddy’s been stabbed,” sobbed Spc. Matthew Barnes as he pleads with the dispatcher for help.

“Please, please. I think he’s dead!”

Barnes was walking with 20-year-old Tevin Geike and another friend when a car drove by and the passengers yelled something at the soldiers and stopped.

Once they acknowledged all were JBLM soldiers, the other passengers in the car thought a brewing altercation had been resolved. But then Jeremiah Hill, 23, allegedly stabbed Geike and the chest.

“We were walking down the street, we were walking back to our friend’s house and these four black dudes stopped and stabbed him,” a desperate Barnes tells the dispatcher. He then explains they quickly drove off.

The dispatcher tries to calm Barnes as he implores her for help.

“I’ve got help started, OK? There are a lot of people coming to you. I’m going to stay on the line until they find you,” she says.

You can hear a panicked Barnes pleading for his friend’s life.

“Tevin stay with us,” he cries out.

The call ends when a police car arrives about three minutes after it began.
