Her story made it to Lifetime TV while her appeals trial was underway in Italy, and now Amanda Knox’s story is on its way to the big screen.
Deadline Hollywood reports Cara Delevigne and Kate Beckinsale will star in “The Face of an Angel” based on the book “Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox” by Barbie Latza Nadeau.
Cara Delevigne will play University of Washington student Knox. Beckinsale will play a journalist following the case.
Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted in 2009 of sexually assaulting and murdering Knox’s British roommate Meredith Kercher, and sentenced to 26 years in prison.
In 2011, an appeals court acquitted them. But prosecutors are now seeking to overturn the acquittals, while defense attorneys say they should stand. Knox, who went home to Seattle a free woman after her acquittal, hasn’t returned to Italy for her third trial.
Michael Winterbottom will be directing the new film based on a script by Paul Viragh.
KIRO Radio film critic Tom Tangney says Winterbottom is a top-notch director.
“Winterbottom is fantastic,” says Tom.
The film is set to begin production in Tuscany, Italy.
