Convicted voyeur Steven Powell was released from state prison on Sunday and will live in Tacoma as state courts decide whether to auction his Puyallup home.

Powell, 64, was convicted two years ago in Pierce County of 14 counts of voyeurism for photographing his 8 and 10-year-old female neighbors while they bathed and used the bathroom.

After Powell’s conviction, the victims won a $1.8 million judgment in a civil case. In December, a judge ordered Powell’s Puyallup home sold at auction to begin to pay that judgment. Powell has since fought to stop that sale, filing a court motion to have the home declared a homestead.

Powell is the father of Josh Powell, who was suspected of murdering his wife, Susan Cox Powell, who disappeared from her Utah home five years ago. Josh Powell killed the couple’s two sons and himself two years ago in Pierce County.

Steven Powell will wear a GPS tracking device for the first 30 days of his release, and will need permission from the Department of Corrections before leaving Pierce County.

The department did not release the address in Tacoma where Powell will reside.
