Over 500 emergency management officials in the public, private and non-profit sectors from across the nation will participate in a wide variety of training sessions at the annual Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference in Tacoma this week.
Key presentations include Adrianne Haslet-Davis, who lost her left leg below the knee one year ago while finishing the Boston Marathon. She will tell her inspirational story of recovery, including returning to ballroom dancing on Dancing With The Stars and other TV appearances.
David Sanderson was on the Miracle on the Hudson aircraft and will present what happened on that flight, including his efforts as the last one off the plane.
Sandi Doughton, Science Reporter for The Seattle Times, will discuss her research on the outcomes from strong Pacific NW earthquakes.
Other presentations will address weather and flooding, volcanoes, the I-5 Skagit River bridge incident, health care, business continuity, landslides including the Oso event, SuperStorm Sandy, schools, cybersecurity, emergency response and communication, and much more.
The Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference is the largest and most successful conference of its kind in western North America.
The event permits all those who prepare, respond, and recover from disasters to meet and work together before any disaster event. Partnerships developed in advance pay dividends for incidents like the SR-530 slide near Oso, Washington as well as many other events. For more information about the conference, visit www.piepc.org/
