If you’re single and work in the tech industry in Seattle, you’d think you’d be quite the catch with the ladies. Unfortunately, there are far too many of you out there.

Tech blogger Jeff Reifman has come up with some pretty sobering statistics when it comes to dating prospects for straight, single guys. And in a blog post he aptly titles “You’ve Got Male,” he says Amazon.com is a big reason why.

Reifman says he’s had a tough enough time dating in Seattle the past couple of years, and wondered if Amazon’s rapid growth could be playing a part in it (he is a tech guy after all, so of course he had to have data.)

The tech industry veteran compared U.S. Census data with Amazon’s growth figures. Reifman estimates Amazon now employs nearly 25,000 people. The company is 75 percent male, according to Payscale.com. Suffice it to say that means a lot more fishermen than fish in the sea (or dating pool.)

Reifman projects there will be 134 single men in Seattle for every 100 single women by the end of 2014. That’s way up from a ratio of 119 single men to 100 single women in April 2010, when Amazon began its latest wave of non-stop growth.

“By December, I estimate there will be 86,098 single males in this age range (25-44) but only 66,273 females – a gap of 19,825; a lot for a relatively small city. I think it’s also safe to assume that the overabundance of men in Bellevue add pressure on the Seattle scene,” he writes.

His reference to Bellevue is in relation to Microsoft, which also reports about 75 percent of employees are guys.

If you’re a guy, the prospects for finding true love aren’t the greatest. But Reifman says it’s definitely a buyers market for the ladies.

“If you’re a straight single woman outside of Seattle, this might be a great time to move here. Seriously, please move here. Amazon’s hiring,” he says.
