Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole said the recordings show the officers were being threatened, and they did exactly what they are trained to do.
The officer who shot the suspect is a 6-year veteran with the department and was placed on administrative leave.
The man who was killed was wanted on felony and misdemeanor warrants for failing to appear in court for forgery and drug charges.
According to police, the 35-year-old suspect had led Washington State Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase from Tacoma to Seattle before ditching his truck and running through yards in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.
Police say he was hiding in a shed when they found him. The suspect called out to the officers, "I've got a pistol, too."
After the suspect refused to step out from inside the shed, officers saw the man holding what they believed, and what he had told them, was a handgun.
The suspect pointed the gun at police, and one officer opened fire, fatally striking the suspect. Police recovered the man's weapon, which turned out to be a realistic-looking pellet gun.
