Oct 16, 2014, 8:25 AM | Updated: 1:04 pm

A student was hit by a school bus in front of Federal Way High School Thursday morning.

The 15-year-old girl was in the crosswalk at S. 308 & Pacific Highway S. around 7:45 a.m. when she was hit, according to police. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The Federal Way School District says the bus was transporting students to a nearby elementary school when it took a left onto the highway from 308th. None of the students on board were injured.

The driver has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard practice. Investigators are determining whether the bus’ mechanical systems were functioning properly at the time of the incident.

Counselors are at the high school and the transportation department.
