More than 30 law enforcement officers fanned out across Lewis County Thursday to arrest people wanted for domestic violence during a morning-to-midnight sweep.
With 199 warrants in hand, the cops made 10 arrests.
“At first blush, that doesn’t look like a high number but it is ten people who were held accountable for their actions and possibly ten victims that feel like they received some justice for what happened to them,” said Lewis County Chief Deputy Stacy Brown.
The warrants were for felony and misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence assault.
“Some of the warrants are over a year, some even a couple of years old and we found out yesterday that a large number of subjects have moved out of the Lewis County area,” said Brown.
“The offenders that we were able to obtain addresses for we will be coordinating with agencies in that location and trying to take them into custody.”
Officers, in two-person teams, worked for more than 16 hours in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
