One of two teens who survived the shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School was released from the hospital and returned home Thursday.
Nate Hatch, 14, left Harborview Medical Center Thursday morning, nearly two weeks after his cousin Jaylen Fryberg opened fire in the school cafeteria, shooting him in the jaw, spokeswoman Susan Gregg said.
Hatch was greeted by more than 200 friends and family who gathered along the road leading onto the Tulalip Indian Reservation to welcome him home, the Everett Herald reports.
Hatch’s family released the following statement:
We appreciate all the amazing support we have received from the community. We are grateful for the top-notch care Nate received from the team at Harborview Medical Center. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families who have been affected by this horrific tragedy. Please allow us the privacy we need to continue on the road of recovery. Thank you.
Andrew Fryberg, 15, remains in critical condition at Thursday in intensive care at Harborview.
Hatch’s return comes on the same day memorial services were getting underway on the reservation for Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, 14, one of three teen girls killed in the shooting. A memorial for victim Zoe Galasso, 14, took place last weekend. No plans for Gia Soriano, 14, who was also killed in the shooting, have been made public.
Hatch has posted a number of pictures showing his improvement on Twitter, including one with rapper Macklemore, who visited Wednesday.
