Efforts to revive Seattle’s beloved sandwich shop Paseo have been cancelled.
A group of entrepreneurs launched a Kickstarter campaign last week to reopen both the Fremont and Ballard locations of the iconic sandwich shop with as many of the original employees as possible.
Paseo closed last Wednesday, Nov. 12 after owners filed for bankruptcy.
Greg Gans said he and his friends were stunned when Paseo shut down. Their lawyers determined they could buy the business and reopen. But the online campaign ended Thursday with 312 supporters who raised $34,180. The goal was set at $250,000
Gans said last week that he didn’t know anything about a lawsuit filed by four workers who claimed wage theft and discrimination.
“We want to make it a better place to work. We want them to feel like they’re invested in it. We want to give them a stake in the company,” he said.
Paseo had been voted second best sandwich shop in the nation on Yelp.
