Police have arrested a suspected car thief after a standoff at a house in Tacoma Friday morning.

Tacoma Police spokesperson Loretta Cool told KIRO Radio officers were serving a warrant at a home in the
5300 S. Orchard St. Investigators believed a known car thief was inside the apartment.

Cool said a fire broke out as they were serving the warrant and a person was taken into custody on unrelated issues.

“While we were serving that warrant, we learned that the subject we were looking for was actually in a house in the 1100 block of S. Ridgewood,” Cool said.

The man refused to come out of that home for several hours Friday.

Officers were able to arrest the man about six hours after the original warrant was served.
