It’s been over a year since you’ve seen Mayor Mike McGinn park his bike at a Seattle news conference. So what’s he been up to?
Among other things, McGinn is now a podcaster on KIRO Radio. He recently launched three episodes of his new show, “You, Me, Us, Now.”
“I became so consumed with the issue of climate change that I dropped everything to pursue political change, and ultimately became the mayor of Seattle. I worked hard and I was changed by the people I met and their stories. Now I want to bring some of their stories to you.”
McGinn sits down behind the mic with Tim Harris, homeless advocate and founder of Real Change newspaper; Maru Mora Villalpando, a Latina activist and an undocumented immigrant; and Bob Santos, who helped create Seattle’s multicultural coalition for civil rights.

So far, the reviews favor McGinn’s radio voice and show topics.
“He’s doing great interviews with local notables. Today, I listened to his wonderful conversation about Seattle’s history of activism with the legendary Bob Santos. Am also looking forward to hearing his long-form interview with Timothy Harris. McGinn is quite good at this. Great stuff for people wanting to understand the city.” – Knute Berger, Crosscut
“If you miss the soothing, melodious cadence of our former mayor Mike McGinn, KIRO Radio has you covered with his new podcast, You, Me, Us, Now.” – Seattlish
“Ex-Seattle Mayor @mayormcginn has new podcast on KIRO radio called “You, Me, Us, Now” … Any alternative name ideas?” – Daniel Beekman, Seattle Times reporter
While McGinn said he doesn’t take advice from The Seattle Times, he admitted to liking reporter Jim Brunner’s podcast name suggestion: “The Once and Future Mayor?”
