Family of baby shot in the head seeking answers

Apr 16, 2015, 5:50 PM | Updated: Apr 17, 2015, 3:46 pm

The family of the 1-year-old girl who was shot in the head Thursday afternoon want more information.

“All we want is answers,” Precious Grant, the girl’s aunt, told KING 5.

Grant and the rest of the family are asking why more information hasn’t been released. There were witnesses to the shooting that critically injured the infant. A Harborview Medical Center spokesperson said the baby girl was in “very critical condition” Friday morning.

“My one-year-old niece is gone, and for what?” Grant asked. “Because people decided to get up and say let’s lock and load our guns and shoot up a car.

“How are you guys sitting back, feeling right now, knowing that you guys didn’t get anybody but a one year old child?”

Kent police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson said the child was in a car seat in the back seat of a silver Chevrolet Impala and her parents were in the front seat when a black car pulled alongside at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Robinson says both the driver and passenger in the black car fired at the silver car, then drove off.

Police have provided no description of the suspects.

The shooting took place at the intersection of Lake Fenwick Road and Reith Road.

Police did not offer any details on the possible conflict between occupants of the two cars.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
