Alcohol may be involved in Kent domestic violence shooting

Following a heated argument, a woman shot her ex-husband near Kent late Tuesday evening.

The King County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the shooting, but a spokesperson said it appears to be a case of self-defense.

“They were essentially arguing verbally, it became physical with pushing and shoving,” said Sergeant Stan Seo with the King County Sheriff’s Office.

“It became even more physical after that,” he said. “The female got scared and armed herself, the male continued to advance on her, and she ended up shooting him.”

The 46-year-old woman shot her ex-husband in the 29800 block of Kent Black Diamond Road Southeast around 10 p.m.

“It was a pretty emotional and charged incident between former spouses that got back together,” Seo said.

The woman told investigators that she armed herself with a handgun as the conversation became contentious, but her 48-year-old former spouse continued to approach her. She responded by shooting him in the hip area of his left leg.

Seo said investigators believe the man was drinking before the shooting.

After wounding him, the woman ran to a neighbor’s house to call 9-1-1.

Deputies are still investigating the shooting. The woman was not booked into jail.

The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
