Emergency crews responded to a fire at Nova High School where police patrols were heightened following reports of suspicious chemicals found on campus.
Seattle police were called to the Capitol Hill scene around 7:30 a.m. Police reported the fire is the result of arson. The principal’s office door was set ablaze.
The fire on the principal’s door was quickly extinguished and did not spread.
Chemical substances were also located outside the school’s gender-neutral restroom. Seattle’s arson and bomb investigators are trying to determine if the chemicals are similar to what was used on the principal’s door.
Seattle police’s bias crimes detectives were called to the scene because of the possible connection to the gender-neutral bathroom.
Classes were not cancelled.
