The Lakebay Marina was evacuated after a man claimed he attached bombs to fuel tanks.
The man fired a shotgun into the air, before saying he put bombs on the marina’s fuel tanks, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
A SWAT team and marine units arrived shortly after initial reports.
The man, believed to be 56, was in a 30 foot cabin cruiser, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ed Troyer. He secured to the dock.
“He has fired rounds from a shotgun into the air and claims to have strapped bombs onto the marina fuel tanks as well as putting bombs on his own boats fuel and propane tanks,” Troyer said. “We are advising people to stay out of the area as we continue to evacuate.”
Lakebay Marina is located northwest of McNeil Island in Pierce County.
