Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspect in the shooting of two teenagers after a four-hour standoff in Everett on Friday morning.
Investigators say the 17-year-old male barricaded himself in a condo. The teen is suspected of shooting a 14-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy on Thursday evening.
The suspect is being treated for minor injuries related to the aerosol irritant that a SWAT team used to force him out of the condo. The condo is about a mile away from Discovery Elementary, which is adjacent to the shooting scene.
The two victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center after the shooting was reported at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The 17-year-old victim was listed in critical condition, the 14-year-old in satisfactory condition, according to KING 5.
No one from the school was injured.
Detectives initially described the suspect as a 20-year-old black male. He was wearing a red sweatshirt.
A source close to the victims told KIRO TV that the victims may have been shot because one of them was wearing the color blue. Mariner High School recently banned certain clothing because of gang concerns. That high school is located near Discovery Elementary and the shooting site.
