Seattleites love to drink their coffee and now they're preventing Parkison's disease too.

A new study out of Evergreen Healthcare shows heavy coffee drinkers are 27 percent less likely to develop the debilitating nervous system disorder.

Co-author Pinky Agarwal told 97.3 KIRO FM that your chances of obtaining the disease is even lower if you carry a specific gene. "We've found that the ones who have this [gene] had a lower risk of developing Parkison's when they had heavy coffee consumption."

Those who carry the "G-R-I-N-2-A" gene are 59 percent less likely to get the disease according to the report.

The study shows promise for Parkinson's drugs that mimic the effects of coffee.
