A tow company that made headlines when it charged $800 for a single impound, is now facing hefty fines themselves.

The Department of Licensing is fining Citywide Towing $9,000 for breaking state laws.

"The violations that occurred in these cases aren't just paperwork errors. They are serious violation of state law that caused harm to consumers," Christine Anthony, with the Department of Licensing, tells KING 5.

Olympia lawmakers are currently considering a bill that would put limits on towing rates and fees.

The Towing and Recovery Association of Washington collaborated with lawmakers to determine appropriate limits, and report they are committed to seeing the bill become law.
