Divers recovered the driver of a car that crashed off Highway 3 into Sinclair Inlet Friday morning near Gorst.

The Washington State Patrol told KOMO Radio he was given CPR and taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton where he was declared dead. There was no one else in the car.

Trooper Julie Startup says the accident happened about 6 a.m. when the driver suddenly veered, glancing off another car, vaulting over a fence and landing in the water. The car sank about 90 feet from shore.

The scene is not far from where a Washington State Patrol trooper was killed early Thursday in a traffic stop shooting.

One lane of Highway 3 remains closed while the crash site is investigated.
